Photo Of The Day: 15/07/2011 "silk"

Although silk is produced by various animals such as bees, wasps, ants and spiders, only that obtained from the larvae of Bombyx mori is currently used to produce textiles. This lepidopteran insect, known as the silk moth is native to northern Asia but now grows in many regions. These natural fibers are first used to generate tissues, circa 3000 BC in China. Popular stories are told, that the fine fabrics, could only be used by the Imperial China. The Empress Xi Ling-Shi, was one of the first dress. The texture, brightness and ease of transport, the silk became a very popular with merchants, who popularized its use and took him beyond the borders of Asia. Already in our days, we find fabrics from other areas. Some of the most known and appreciated are in Thailand, offering complicated weaving patterns and colors and transmits the handloom tradition from generation to generation. In southern India, we find large-scale factories. Cities like Bhoodhan Pochampally, known as "Silk City", Kanchipuram, Dharmavaram, Mysore, Banaras or evil, are known for making clothes and saris of this material.

In most cases we use this natural fiber tops, elegant dresses or bedding. Its low conductivity helps keep the heat near the skin in cold climates and facilitates the absorption in hot climates. However, there are other lesser-known uses of silk introduced into our lives. It is used for the construction of parachutes, powder bags, quilts, etc. bicycle tires. A surgical level is intended for non-absorbable sutures in the body, and even to generate arteries protésicas.La next time you a walk through the field and pass along a caterpillar or a butterfly, I will see much more than the beauty of the colors their wings or the infinite number of legs.
